The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

It's s tricky situation. Pretty much most of the world is made up of conquered territories. Are we to accept continual war because someone's territory was conquered 200 years ago? At some point, there has to be acceptance or else there is more bloodshed.

Native Americans have reservations, but are also citizens of the USA. Not ideal, but they aren't getting the land back. Even if they are indigenous. It's better than the treatment of Palestinians in Palestine/Judea. So, Jews are not alone in the world. First Peoples in the Americas can relate. I'm sure others in the world can. Including the Palestinians, who had their land stolen 70 years ago (and it continues to this day in the form of "settlers").

Both Palestinians and Jews have claims. I consider the Jewish claim weaker simply because it -at least partially- relies on divine decree of a "promised land", and a myth of Moses, whom scholars agree never existed. Basing decisions like that on religion never leads to good things, as we see almost daily.

For me, they should coexist in the land. But elements of each side won't stand for it. So, short of genocide, I see no end (unless they realize there is no god that made any promises, and stop killing each other). The US should wash our hands of it. We can't solve it for them, and no matter which side we support we will be reviled by millions. Not worth it, IMO.
