I am glad Trump took out Iran's nuclear program and believe that was the right decision even though there remains the problem you describe. If the present day mullah nutjob mentality continues indefinitely, it is almost certain the Iranian nuclear ambitions will re-ignite. It may be ten or twenty years but they have been shouting death to America for 50+ years and are if nothing else, are a patient and committed adversary.

It seems that the only practical next step must be regime change. This sounds desirable but it really is a crap shoot because I have heard there are of sects of nutjobery that are even more orthodox than the present day collection. I don't know Iranian politics at all, and don't understand the who are the opposition parties and what they stand for. The important lesson we have learned (I hope) is regime change and candidate selection are to be avoided by us and left for them to figure out.
