I had similar conversations with my Dentist (who retired, and sold the business to a young couple rather than a roll-up)

About 2000-2001, my dentist (he was retirement age) sold his practice to another dentist. At our last meeting before the sale, he told me he had signed a multi-year contract with the US military and was to do dental work/surgery in Germany.

The new dentist changed the business name (to something stupid, IMO) and relocated it to a wealthier part of the city. They were out of business after 2-3 yrs. Tried a few other places (another dentist retired) and I eventually ended up at a chain dental office run by a Russian migrant. He was a US dentist. No problems for several years. Suddenly, he was gone (the dentist, not the dental office/clinic). No idea what happened. Another dentist (from another clinic in the same chain) took over the existing location and I have been satisfied with the dental work ever since.
