My statement is essentially exactly what was stated upthread- Bibi loses to the Labor/Meretz coalition and YAY everybody loves Israel again.
Well...no, none of the people who hate Israel now ever loved it in the first place. And two, the guy who's likely going to be challenging Bibi is a former IDF general. What do you think his attitude towards Iran and Gaza/West Bank is?
Those are valid observation. However, there is not a Labor/Meretz coalition to be had. The successor party is The Democrats, and they would be lucky to garner 10% of the Knesset seats, making them one of several parties in a new coalition. It’s true that the leading opposition candidate is Gadi Eisenkot who used to be the IDF chief of staff. He’s certainly not a pacifist, but he’s not a raving lunatic messianic racist bigot like Netanyahu and his partners. Forget Gaza and Iran for a moment. The current Israeli government is conducting a thinly veiled campaign of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, using roving gangs of armed settlers. Netanyahu just visited Trump to try to talk him into restarting his stupid war with Iran because it’s Netanyahu’s only hope of getting re-elected.
There is zero chance that Israel will become the darling of the world any time soon, but climbing out of the gutter and returning to where it ranks better than North Korea would be an improvement.
