The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

the utility adding power capability,

Yup. A while back, I pulled up a list of the five utilities with the largest exposure to data centers. I hold three of them. As if that wasn't enough risk, one of the utilities then announced it wanted to merge with another utility on that list, for the express purpose of increasing it's exposure to data centers. ACK! The proxy for the merger approval came a couple weeks ago. I voted NO.

As you said, will the vendors get paid, when a data center project fails? At least the regulated utilities can probably put the bite on their rate payers. Will Corning be paid for the fiber? Will GEV be paid for the generator sets?

I remember the day after Thanksgiving, in 2000. Broadcom issued a warning that day, when a lot of people would not be watching. Over the next several weeks, a lot of warnings were issued, because the chip companies were discovering reality was coming up short of their rosy forecasts.
