Here's a little irony for you:
Folarin Balogun is only eligible to play for the US team through...you guessed it, birthright citizenship!
Yes, I noticed that, too. There are several ironies in this case. Most experts agree that Balogun should not have gotten a red card. Rule 12 gives a penalty without intent, but the action still has to be careless, reckless, or using excessive force. All of those who saw the play note that this was normal game play that resulted in an injury and that Balogun was not reckless in this play or use excessive force in that situation. The problem now that trump has put his foot on the play, is that it becomes entirely political and therefore corrupt. As if the FIFA crowd weren't already corrupt enough!
So...irony #1 is that Balogun is a U.S. citizen through the very mechanism that trump says shouldn't exist and #2 that even though the red card should not have been issued, trump's intervention makes it smell.
