It sucks that USian Jews live in fear. USian Muslims are probably thinking "welcome to my world, of the last 25 years". Did the news in your area report the uproar in Dearborn last week, when a gaggle of Christian nutters showed up to try to provoke an incident with the city's Muslim population? Dearborn used to host an Arab Festival each year. They had to abandon the festival, because Christian nutters kept showing up, trying to provoke an incident.
Exactly - and the appropriate response to that is not to intimate that maybe Dearborn's Arab community should think twice about being visibly Muslim, but instead to stress that they have every right to be able to express their views and culture without having to be put in fear of reprisals. That of course they ought to be able to have their festival without that putting them in danger.
It's not hard to do that. To say, "of course Jews should be able to fully be invested in believing that Israel should continue to exist as a Jewish state without that putting them in danger." And when that doesn't happen - when the person who suggests that maybe it's the Jews who are putting themselves in danger, rather than blaming the people who are endangering them, declines to take that step - many representatives from the Jewish community get angered or dismayed by that. And rightly so.
