Item: The Admiral is at least 50% likely to be on the right side politically anyway and they all know it. That's why he agreed to this story.
Item: He either gets a "full, free, and absolute pardon" from any war crimes ...or maybe he gets court martialed and good luck having Admirals convict an Admiral for making a "military decision while under fire" or they will simply stack the panel with friendly officers. They won't convict and everybody goes home.
Everybody did their jobs and the system worked
Item: There is another body in the Hague, the ICC, etc. I maintained, in the full conversation, that we wanted to bring the charges rather than them, try him, give him a medium light sentence, then pardon him after say - 90 days, reinstate his pension, etc. Wanted to maintain control of it and keep the Euros out.
