The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

I used to use an interactive Excel worksheet linked to Yahoo Finance to follow my stock portfolio. A few years ago, this blew up when Yahoo made changes.

Long story made short, I came across this web site: tawcan.com: Tawcan » Financial Independence Retire Early Via Dividend & ETF Investing whose author had created something similar using Google Sheets generally linked to Google Finance.

While you have to be logged into Google Sheets to use this (I don't think it will work with Excel, for example), it updated pretty much real-time on its own. While the sample he has posted has a couple of challenges (handling dividends), his work was very valuable and my version actually incorporates multiple currencies and tracks things like the USD index, spot gold/silver and so on.
