The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Mike, cut the snark if you want to ask questions. - Lapsody

C'mon. Snark inserts a little fun into the conversation. And done well, it can help to illustrate a point in a more entertaining way than to read over and over again, worn out terms like "orange menace" or its many variations.

Why didn’t Trump do anything in 2019? Why didn't Trump get Congress to address immigration instead of giving away money to billionaires?

He did quite a bit, as the voters are telling you, rather loudly these days. And Trump's border accomplishments were done in the face of overwhelming resistance put up by the dems, the MSM, and the Swamp, and the RINO's (almost forgot them).

Ok, you are aware that Point of Entries got shut down to get the Mexican Presidents cooperation recently? Look at the rest of the meetings. And this isn’t everything. Are your friends interested in foreign affairs? Perhaps their sources don't give at least blurbs to meetings with Mexico by Biden Admin. Perhaps they write articles that disfavor Biden and don't give a decent picture. And perhaps they're only interested in sensational stories about the border, but they should know about the recent shut down.

OK, I do acknowledge Biden has done something recently. And I am glad for it, and to the extent it reduces flow is a good accomplishment and Biden deserves credit.

However, lets get back to the original contention, that Biden, despite this late 2023 accomplishment, has earned a reputation of being soft on the the border. You are asserting that Biden's recent accomplishment establishes that Biden is not Mr. Softie.

To which I reply, "While beneficial, this recent accomplishment does not establish that Biden as a tough on border guy. If he was, Biden would have done this sooner and without needing Ukraine leverage to get him to do so. Up to now, Biden's border accomplishments are largely the 80 or so EO's he issued, tearing down Trump's border policies, not exactly supportive of the picture you are trying to paint. Biden is soft on the border, he ran on that premise, and kept his promise, own it."
