That seems to make sense, but then how would you explain Iran's apparent plots to assassinate Trump?
Because Iranian leadership is smart enough to distinguish the difference between the American people and the guy who launched this war against them.
If it becomes in their interest to kill Americans (other than service personnel in the area who are directly threatening them) then they will undoubtedly do so, but for now, their self interest is best served by winning our sympathy rather than killing us.
