The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

albaby,
believe me, i am enjoying this for as long as it lasts, but dont see much reality as they pretend to fight.
taking simpler explanations when they suffice; everything trump is financial corruption and\or publicity.

some supporting points :

- musk and trump are not attacking each other directly....how often does this happen? even trump's PR lie multiplier and axeman leavitt, who attacks the smallest perceived slight to trump, is trying to giggle it off.
- trump's entire career has dozens, if not hundreds, of people who disparaged him and his policies for a while and then became MAGA. also vice-versa. also multiple reversals.
- a good background on how trump stages much conflict for publicity is here :
kyla.substack.com - Wweconomics kayfabe and the trade

- musk has a history of increasing criticisms of projects after failures during his direct control. this time, musk is sensitive to the budget bill partially due to his insignificant fiscal impact w/doge, and partially because starlink has guaranteed benefit but spaceX does not.
- given trump's ability to deflect blame where he likes, i am unclear budget delay blame will fall only on musk (but probably biden), nor how much it really hurts trump unless the delay extends into 2026.
- this is not an election year. in 2026, many gop races will need musk's money, and trump will continue to want it so he can preserve his own 'donations'.
if, and only if, this battle turns real and escalates, will we see evidence from real fallout.

so far, both musk and trump have benefited greatly from their association, and i think they will likely come around to this again.
but if musk somehow loses interest in politics after 2025, both will claim a victory.
