Why do so many MAGAs like being lied to?

Because it reaffirms their world view which is set in stone and cannot be changed lest their entire value system come tumbling down. They’re still pissed we didn’t drop the Big One on Vietnam. That black people walk freely among us. That the idea of gay is even a subject for discussion. That women are airline pilots.

The have their heroes, fictional or not, and there is nothing you can say or do that is going to change that.

The Democrats were the beneficiaries of that for a while while the FDR coalition held together long after his death. The Republicans are now, and were in the 1930’s, when they continued voting for Hoover (and successor Republican candidates) by margins of 40-45%.

There’s actually only a small sliver that moves back and forth, and most people including, I dare say you and me, have pretty much decided whether we’re on the side of the angels or not.
