The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Australia introduced universal health care over 50 years ago in 1975. It was called Medibank. Not too successful due to all the compromises. In 1984 it was overhauled and has been in use for 42 years. I have heard nobody ever say "I wish we had the US system."

I used ChatGPT to ask the following question.

What were the major issues identified prior to Australia going to Medicare and how were they addressed?

The response is too long to paste, but major issues and concerns, not unlike the US system. From the original question I went on and found comparisons with the US system and reasons why there is such a large difference in pricing and outcomes (they are negatively correlated).

A simple question, should the US stay on the same path, or can it have major improvements?

Aussi who was lived in several different countries and also in the US where I had Medicare (which is good), employer health insurance and ACA.
