What qualifies as a lawful right?

Something consistent with the Constitution (especially the Fourth Amendment) and the statutory and code authorities given to the government officials in question.

If they've got a validly obtained warrant, the statute would apply - and probably legitimately prohibits you from destroying the property in order to avoid having it searched/seized under the warrant. The same with any of the standard situations where a warrant isn't required - a law enforcement officer directly witnesses a crime, customs is making people open their car trunks when driving across the border, etc. If the government is permitted to search/seize the property under the Constitution and other applicable laws, you probably can be prosecuted if you destroy it in order to stop that search/seizure.
