The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

JD Vance visited the pope on Easter. His motorcade was driving in one side of the Vatican while Easter Mass was being celebrated on the other...

His audience with the pope lasted only a few minutes. JD's last words to the pope were:

“I know you have not been feeling great but it’s good to see you in better health,”

The pope died several hours later.

Who got the last laugh? The pope? or JD?
+++++

Totally unrelated, but I just thought of it, so you will have to suffer through it while I tell the story.....

A New England headstone over a hundred years old, bears the single, terse inscription:

"See. I told you I was sick."
++++++++

From Francis' Easter Sermon- delivered by another priest, just before Francis met with JD Vance:

What a great thirst for death, for killing, we witness each day in the many conflicts raging in different parts of our world! How much violence we see, often even within families, directed at women and children! How much contempt is stirred up at times towards the vulnerable, the marginalised, and migrants!

And further on....

I appeal to all those in positions of political responsibility in our world not to yield to the logic of fear which only leads to isolation from others, but rather to use the resources available to help the needy, to fight hunger and to encourage initiatives that promote development. These are the 'weapons' of peace: weapons that build the future, instead of sowing seeds of death!

Other than the few breezy words they exchanged, I doubt that JD Vance and Pope Francis had many mutual understandings to talk about.

Requiescat in pace, Brother Francis.
And may our vice president find the peace of repentence.
