The article doesn't include a direct comparison of early deaths between states, if focuses mostly on life expectancies.
Here are some life expectancy numbers by state...

Mississippi 71.9
Ohio 75.3
Illinois 76.8
NY 77.7
Minnesota 79.1
California 79
