The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Just... wow. Once upon a time, I was a very average middle distance runner, and 3:42 is hard for me to wrap my head around. Kerr called his shot and he made it.

This is good for Brooks beyond the PR cycle. They've been modestly killing it, making some excellent workhorse daily trainers and speedier shoes. They've maintained a solid rep for quality and durability (sound like any other company we follow?) They've also avoided some of the missteps committed by competitors -- I'm thinking of Hoka and Salomon, which have run into durability / quality control issues. Especially under Dan Sheridan, who took over in 2024, they're taking market share. If there's been a knock on them, it's that they're not pushing the boundaries (people forget they were one of the first to introduce carbon plates, way back in 1989, but I digress). Doing a super shoe for a record-beating effort is a flex, but like carbon plates, the technology eventually percolates down into the shoes worn by weekend warriors and serious amateurs, and some of us buy a lot of shoes. I still do 85 or 90 road and trail miles in a good week, so I've got 3-4 pairs going at any given time, and one of them is always a pair of Hyperion 3s.
