Have you read Gregory Zuckerman's book on Jim Simons (The Man Who Solved The Market)?

One thing Simons did (which was novel at the time according to the author) was to have his teams read many research papers and discussing them. This was in the late 1990s just when this board was starting. One of my benefits from reading this board over the last 20+ years is seeing references to research papers and the discussions about the papers.
