Two names being reported:

At Bondi beach: The 24-year-old was identified as Naveed Akram, a Pakistani national based in Sydney, according to a U.S. intelligence briefing and a driver's license provided by Australian police. Police previously said the deceased gunman was the son, but Lanyon later clarified that the father was shot and killed by police.

At Brown: The man detained as a person of interest in the shooting is 24-year-old Benjamin Erickson, three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation told NBC News.

It is not yet clear whether Erickson had any ties to the university. Officials are looking into any possible connection to Brown as well as his mental health history, according to the sources.

Pretty routine media coverage we have seen over the last 20 years: the one with a Muslim sounding name, ID'd as Pakistani, and nothing more said, implying his being Muslim is all you need to know. The one with a potentially WASP name: the media floats the idea he is a "disturbed individual", with not one mention of "terrorism" in the article.
