My suspicion is that you are correct. Under current circumstances there will be more resistance than support. But current circumstances will change.
Just within my working life pensions disappeared. Options disappeared, replaced with the rsu. And company health benefits seemed to decline every year, while getting more expensive. And this was before the advent of AI, which already is putting people out of jobs.
We are going to have growing ranks of unemployed and underemployed who either aren't going to get insurance, or have to pay a lot to get it. As that happens, the balance will shift, and those resisting won't be strong enough to oppose those who aren't happy with their insurance.
We'll only have to overcome the Goofus/Gallant attitudes, and it will happen. Probably take another generation.
