Wow...that thread was all over the place (so far). Crypto, gold, rare stamps...

FWIW, I would love to be able to move our assets to Swiss banks. Pretty much untouchable. True, they wouldn't survive a nuclear war, but then neither would the value of any currency. So that point is moot.

Honestly, I have no idea how to do that. I'm not a wealthy oligarch with accountants that "handle that". But shielding my cash and investments from possible confiscation would be good.

Though you seemed to be talking more about safe investments, rather than safe countries (e.g. bonds?). They aren't touching too much on that in that thread.

And, as an aside, Canada wouldn't want most of us. If you're retired, they definitely don't want you. You need to have a marketable skill, and be of an age that you can contribute to their tax base for many years. I once looked it up...they have a point system. Various features get you points, and enough points gets you an immigrant visa.
