Came across this article, that provides the excuses:

This should move quickly. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he continued, before adding his signature sign-off, “President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

So the excuse for eliminating inspections is so farmers don't need to sell to the processing cartel. Except, I know there have been farmer's co-ops running everything from grain elevators to ethanol production plants, for decades. Well known brands, like Land O' Lakes, Ocean Spray, and Blue Diamond started as farmer's co-ops. At one time, Farmland Industries had over 600,000 member farmers, before overleverage got them behind the 8-ball, and the various divisions were sold off, about 20 years ago. Some of the meatpacking operation was sold to Smithfield.

Bottom line: Trump lied. I'm sure that shocks everyone here.

So, what happens when farmers don't need their products inspected? Big ag whines they are "unfairly burdened" by inspections, so they give the government inspectors the boot too. After all, if more Proles get sick from eating contaminated food, so what? They're just expendable Proles.
