I don't think we will.

Could be. "Decent Interval" was published in 77, five years after the events it discusses, and two years after the fall of Saigon.

...but that won't tell us whether the closure is what Trump wanted to happen or whether it's something that ended up happening despite what he wanted.

Trump seems to be pivoting to focusing on Cuba. So, either he is satisfied with the status quo in the Strait, or he has the attention span of a gnat, and can't stay focused on Iran long enough to obtain the outcome he wanted.
