But are they?.... Not so much.
Common sense idea, shut down <most of**> the ineffective Department of Education and send those billions of dollars to the states.
So, how bad is the Department of Education doing? This bad:

However, U.S. students often score below average in math and science compared to other countries, ranking 34th in math and 16th in science in recent assessments.
**/B>The part of the Dept of Education that I think should remain federalized is the part that supports special needs students. Accommodating these students is immensely expensive and having just one such student move into a small town school district can devastate the school budget. Plus being federalized allows for consistent standards of care as well as the possibility of economies of scale.
