The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

This one is Democrat all the way, Dean Phillips (D, MN Rep) and contender for the dem primary was just on TV with Harris Faulkner agreeing with Ohio Pay the Students idea. He added it didn't go far enough and he explained his program. To be sure I got the details right for this post, I got this of his platform page.

... if elected, he would provide babies with an American Dream Account at birth, which is a $1,000 endowment that would be added to through their high school years.

When I'm president, I'm going to introduce something called 'American Dream Accounts,' the federal government endowing every baby born in America with a $1,000 account that will grow through their years, early years, and through high school.

"They'll actually learn about investing in high school and elementary school. When they turn 18, if they graduate high school, they get an account that would be worth up to $20,000, so that we actually have the equality of opportunity in this country," Phillips said.

==============

Free money, a bedrock of the dem platform. Phillips doesn't say who or how this investing education will occur but I figure whatever form it takes, DEI concepts will be a key element.

And when the naive HS student goes long on Disney at the urging of his teacher, and loses his ass? I suppose the Dem's would just bump his account at graduation back up to $20K anyway. Come to think of it, this restoral would be a good lesson in the democrat principle that the government is here to save you from the consequences of your own decisions.
