Coming from a maritime background, one comes to appreciate the perspective from the bridge.

Here's everything, all at once, all in one place.

Conclusion: "....The system that saved us is the one nobody governs, and the efficiency it threw off did not land in your pocket. It got captured, by states that turned it into leverage and by the few firms that own the machines now doing the thinking. Washington still believes resilience comes down from the top, from the carrier and the cathedral, and that the machine will hand us cheap plenty for free. It comes up from the bottom. The owners who sent their ships the long way around Africa this spring made fortunes, four times last year’s rate, and the world got poorer paying them to do it. That is the whole story in one hull.
