The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

If no sucker can be found who will pay enough to provide the returns the private equity group needs they will be forced to continue to operate a business they never cared about in the first place.

There is no further return NEEDED by the PE investors. They already got paid. If the business is losing money, it gets jammed into bankruptcy ASAP--after being stripped of all value. If it is not losing money, then it is NOT a cash drain. So, the PE investors don't care--YET. Holding out for a rube to buy the business is their preferred option. Absent a willing rube, everything depends on the economy AND technology--which is unpredictable.
