Ebola virus outbreak in DRC “growing exponentially”: The Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is “growing exponentially,” the UN warned on Friday. Julien Harneis, the UN’s Senior Ebola Coordinator, said in a statement that more than 2,500 people had died in the last three months, with over half of all deaths occurring in just the last 20 days. “The epidemic is spreading to an area that is bigger than France. And the outbreak is growing faster and wider than the Ebola response,” Harneis said. He also stressed the “brutal” conditions facing healthcare workers with 160 healthcare workers contracting Ebola, with 43 dying.
