I forgot to comment on this part.
I live in the most water efficient city in the world. If every city was even 90% as efficient as the city of Las Vegas is with water, then we wouldn't even be having this discussion because fresh water would be plentiful.
The point is, not only do we have so much extra water available to us to use in the oceans, we also have easy ways of more efficiently using the freshwater we already have. Water will not be the constraint on population growth, not for a very, very long time.
