The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

#SMART-MAGA
Iran Deal We Had Under Obama:
Strait of Hormuz open for free!
Iran limits Uranium enrichment!
Iran agreed to make no nuclear weapons!
Iran allowed Int'l inspectors to ensure compliance!
Inspectors confirmed Iran's full compliance!

Pedo Don ripped up this agreement and then spent roughly $100 Billion of taxpayer money, and used up virtually all of Americas long-range missiles attacking Iran.
The result?...
14 American service members have been killed and at least another 414 were wounded in the war as of July 14. (According to the DOD)

As of July 14, Americans had paid more than $68 billion in extra costs for gas and diesel
since the Iran war began, according to the Brown University Iran War Energy Cost Tracker. That amounts to more than $500 per household in higher costs.

Higher fuel prices helped push inflation up to the highest level in three years. The annual increase in the CPI for May 4.2%.

The total cost of the war so far is about $1,100 per American household, considering the roughly $150 billion in costs to date across higher costs for energy, airfare,
groceries, and borrowing plus defense spending, according to Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi.

The war has driven up interest rates, making it more expensive to borrow. Due to higher interest rates, households will spend an estimated additional $4.6 billion, nonfinancial businesses will spend $12.7 billion, and the government will pay $30.8 billion more this year.

China has successfully exploited the conflict to recast itself as a responsible international actor—contrasting itself favorably with Trump’s unilateralism and militarism—and strengthened its negotiating position with the United States.

Trump’s suspension of oil sanctions on Russia has resulted in an economic boon for Russia, which earned an additional $2.3 billion in May alone!

Iran’s ability to survive the combined U.S.-Israeli effort to overthrow the regime has emboldened Tehran, weakening U.S. deterrence and encouraging Iran
to adhere to maximalist positions on control of the Strait of Hormuz and its nuclear program.

The independent Iranian Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) estimated that at least 1,701 Iranian civilians, including 307 children, had been killed in the war.

At least 157 Iranian civilians, the vast majority schoolgirls, were killed in a single incident, a U.S. strike on a school in Minab, Iran.

From February through March 2026, there were more than 300 incidents of potential environmental harm documented across 12 countries, concentrated along the Gulf coast and Tehran. Resulting “black rain” from strikes carried soot, ash, toxic chemicals, burnt fuel residue, and possibly asbestos/silica debris. Heavy metals and PFAS are leaching into groundwater and soil, creating a lasting toxic legacy as seen in Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza, Ukraine, and Lebanon.
