On day five of Trump's civil fraud trial, former Trump Organization senior vice president Jeffrey McConney admitted that ex-Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg asked for his help in committing tax fraud. He said he kept engaging in this illegal conduct because Weisselberg was his boss and he feared losing his job.
McConney also admitted he was directed by Weisselberg to process a payroll check to Weisselberg's wife, who was not an employee, so she could qualify for Social Security benefits. He initially claimed he did not know his actions were illegal but when shown his trial testimony from the Weisselberg/Trump Org. criminal trial last year, in which he acknowledged he knew it was not lawful, he then admitted he knew what he did was illegal.
Weisselberg is scheduled to testify on Tuesday. Kevin C. Wallace, the attorney general's office lawyer who present the opening statement, showed a deposition video of Weisselberg earlier in which Weisselberg was asked whether he was familiar with GAAP.
"I never took the CPA exam, never studied for it," Weisselberg said, explaining he wasn't familiar with GAAP. "So I don't know all the components for it."
Should be an interesting day of testimony.
