One correction: it wasn't a special bonus payment. HDV switched from quarterly to monthly. Here's BlackRock's own distribution schedule:
ishares.com - Shareholder lettersPage 3 shows the HDV schedule with ex-date 8/19 and pay date 8/24 — exactly what your Fidelity screen said. Page 7, footnote 20: changed from quarterly to monthly on June 16. Footnote (e): ex-dividend the third Wednesday of every month. All of it was published before you ever asked the question.
Your bigger point holds — it shouldn't have claimed it verified things it never checked. But that whole explanation of why it failed? Made up too. These things can't see inside themselves, so when you demand an explanation you get a well-written guess. You quoted it as proof it had finally leveled with you.
