We knew he would try. He tried last time, too. Why would anyone think it wouldn't try again, given the opportunity.

Orwell was very prescient. The Ministry of Truth was the propaganda machine, the Ministry of Love was the secret police that tortured citizens, etc. Black is white, and you not only have to say it, you have to believe it.

Ironic that Orwell was writing about the Soviet Union at the time (and totalitarian regimes in general).
