Right now my President shouts "America First"------I hate to say it ---in this case, President Obama put AMERICANS first.
A large US automaker, deep in the kimchee, is a demonstration of Stockholm Syndrome: Idiot management runs the company into the ground. So the line workers are worried about losing their jobs. So the line workers support the idiot management that got the company in trouble, being bailed out by the government.
Remember when Chrysler was deep in the kimchee in the late 70s? The narrative was "we must save the jobs of the line workers, by bailing out the company". That was based on a false narrative: that people who could no longer buy a Chrysler product, would never buy another car, from anyone. Reality: people who could no longer buy a Chrysler, would buy from another company, mostly Ford and GM. While the 'jobs" at Chrysler would vanish, Ford and GM would need to add staff, to meet the additional demand, so there would be no net loss of line worker "jobs". The only people that a Chrysler collapse would put on the street would be the Chrysler honchos who rant the company into the ground.
2008 made for a much broader demonstration. Remember the narrative "we must bail out Wall St, to save Main St"? There it is again: telling Proles they must have sympathy for Billionaires, and pay to protect the Billionaires from the mess they created. The Proles don't even realize they are being used as hostages, by the Billionaires.
Stochholm Syndrome is real.
