The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

As for the mismatched capabilities, this seems to be a problem at the Pentagon. Whether the military planners made glaring errors or not, the fielding of a littoral component to the navy is not a bad idea.

You can start off with a reasonable idea and still mess it up. The Pentagon's procurement process is beyond a mess. It needs to be redone completely.

Put it this way: it shouldn't take nearly as long to design new things as it does.

Should those in the upper echelons of the Corps be chastised or fired for their reconceptualization of how UsMC forces will be re-equipped and deployed on eastern Pacific islands?

Taking away the Corps' heavy tanks was stupid especially in light of Air Force finally getting to retire the A-10.

firing capable people because they are black, brown or female.

From what I've seen, he's removing people who were Peter Principled up too high.

This sort of behavior tamps down creativity and encourages silos and professional withdrawal from rocking the boat.

LOL. Here's a book you should read the next time you talk about how creative the Pentagon is:

amazon.com - Boyd Fighter Pilot Who Changed ebook

Col. John Boyd is literally the father of the modern Air Force: his principles of Energy Maneuverability Theory gave us the F-15, the F-16 and the A-10 as well as led him to create the "OODA" loop (which is now the backbone of American tactical execution).

So why did this literal genius only get to Colonel? Because of the Pentagon.

Drones and how to use them- an entire avenue of exploration and innovation that will not be vigorously explored by those afraid of losing their jobs.

So wrong I don't know where to start. Go Google Anduril Industries. And 'Loyal Wingman'. And 'Collaborative Combat Aircraft'.
