The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Dope1: We have to guard that spirit. Let it always inspire us. Let it always be the source of our optimism - which is that spirit which is so uniquely American. And let that then inspire us by helping us to be inspired to help solve the problems.

Ah, Dope1 getting his "news" and insights from Xhitter again.

Here's her full thought: "I believe the source of our success is the ingenuity, the dynamism, an enterprising spirt of the American people. To paraphrase Warren Buffet, since the founding of our nation there has been no incubator for unleashing human potential like America. And we need to guard that spirit. We have to guard that spirit. Let it always inspire us. Let it always be the source of our optimism, which is that spirit that is so uniquely American. And let that then inspire us by helping us to be inspired to solve the problems that so many face, including our small business owners.

So as I travel the country, what I hear time and again from those who own small businesses, and those who aspire to start them... is that too often they have the willingness to take the risk but that they don't have access to the capital that they need to make it real.

She then segued into her policy to provide loans of up to $50,000 for small business startups.

So, pretty clear when you look beyond a couple of awkward sentences plucked out on Xhitter without taking five minutes to find the actual speech.

Granted, it's no boat battery electrocution and death by shark eloquence -- so important to small business owners -- but pretty good and, with a little work, it'll be even better.
