I was working in Baton Rouge, LA in 1991 when David Duke nearly won the Governor's race. The "sensible Republican" failed to make the runoff and it was David Duke vs. the serially corrupt Democrat Edwin Edwards. Chamber of Commerce Republicans rallyed around Edwards saying that a David Duke win would cause most of the country to boycott the Louisiana tourism industry. One bumper sticker read "Vote for the Crook. It's Important."

I think Biden is going to need the same kind of public support from Republican business interests to win in November. Otherwise it's time for the Party Bosses to switch horses.
