Sometime down the road it would be nice to have the date and time format localized to the browser's location.
Although I must admit the the current European day/month/year combined with the US eastern time has a certain quirkiness to it.

All users are set to New York by default upon account creation (browser don't automatically intrude on location privacy) and then everyone can click 'Personal Settings' at the bottom of any page to change both their time zone, and date format.
