Well, to me that's why God invented cell phones. Getting lost on vacation doesn't sound like much fun. I'm old enough to have done quite a few trips with AAA trip maps, and while I have some nice sepia-toned memories of those trips, I also remember the limitations of the old TripTiks. Doesn't do you much good if you have a roadside problem, or a health emergency, or you lose your wallet and need to have access to another form of payment, either.

I mean, I hear you - it's Canada, so you're not going too far out of your comfort zone. But at this point, having a working cell phone with GPS is basic safety equipment for road trips. For older folks like us, it doesn't seem like it's worth it to not have it. You can always leave it in the trunk if you want to recreate the "old school" feel of a trip, but to not have it at all? Seems like unnecessary risk.
