The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Which political party openly seeks to squash the rights of the other to communicate?

Why do you think that's an especially relevant issue? Judaism isn't a proselytizing religion - it's actually quite discouraged. Democrats aren't doing anything to "squash" the rights of Jews to communicate with each other.

Jews, like most religious minorities, are going to be better off in a society with a secular government and a thick high wall separating church and state. We're going to be better off in a society where discrete minority groups are not under pressure to assimilate to majority norms, where community values prioritize acceptance of different cultures and faiths rather than cultural or religious purity. We're not likely to be part of a team that emphasizes increasing the degree of religiosity in spaces that are currently secular - because that's far more likely to turn out poorly for us than not.

So we vote more liberal than conservative - perhaps more than any other demographic group in the U.S. Because we know which party's vision of America is one that's better for historically disfavored religious minorities - and it's not the party that wants to put up the Ten Commandments in public classrooms...
