When Russia didn't seize Kyiv in the opening weeks of the war, they had a big problem. We know what happened after that (drones, Spiderweb, etc). Ukraine is fighting for their very existence, so they are not motivated to give up. Meanwhile, the Russian economy is not doing well, Russian families are probably getting tired of flag-draped coffins, and they are suffering strikes within their homeland.
This is their Vietnam, at this point. Russia can't win as long as Ukraine is being supplied by the West. They are slowly gaining territory, but the cost has been incredible. This could result in regime change in Russia if their people get fed up enough.
