Bankruptcy?...

That is what the "starve the beast" crowd wants: an excuse to kill all the social spending, leaving the government funding nothing but debt service, war, and subsidizing the rich. Years ago, I watched a conference by the Concord Coalition. One of the panelists, I forget who, said he had a conversation with one of the "starve the beast" crowd, and summed up his comments with words to the effect "That is your intention? Do nothing until there is some sort of crisis. Then tell all these retirees, many of whom have no financial assets outside of Social Security, 'sorry, we can't do it anymore'. And you don't think there will be serious social and economic repercussions?" Trump the God Awful seemed to be channeling that "starve the beast" position. a couple weeks ago, when he said that the government can't pay for childcare, Medicare and Medicaid, because it needs to fight wars. Of course, that position would only be an issue, if there were "free and fair" elections in the future.
