The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

What amazes me is the amount of abuse they'll put up with from their own leaders also. And it's not that it's just bad governance, their leaders actively gaslight them and tell them that it's raining as the piss on their heads.

Take Washington state. We have the 2nd or 3rd highest gas prices in the nation behind Hawaii and California. Most of that is self-inflicted with the carbon tax (that they said wasn't a tax and the sheep bought it) and other stuff. High energy prices reverberate throughout the local economy and make everything more expensive.

And libs being libs, they've blown out a multi-billion dollar hole in the state budget that they're looking to fill with a targeted income tax. Never mind that the state Constitution frowns on that and that the voters have rejected such a thing 11 or times (including as recently as 2024), they're doing it anyway.

The governor comes out and says it's about "affordability". This from the same guy that signed the largest tax increase in state history last year. Is there gas tax relief on the table? How about sales tax relief? Nope. He says he'll take 5% of the money from the new tax and use that.

How stupid are these people? They all complain about bad governance but just accept mediocrity. I've never seen anything like it before. Same thing with this board; no matter how bad a job their national leaders do they'll keep going with it.

During Covid the strategy seemed to be, 'lock the citizens up and keep them on weed and booze'. I guess a bunch of folks just liked it that way.
