The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

This sort of could be US policy if government (like FL) starts banning them.

I hate HOAs. We don't have one. We were supposed to, but they set it up wrong. One neighbor wanted to fix it, but most of the neighborhood refused. So we don't have one. That said, this guy bought into an HOA community. You have to sign-off on it as part of the purchase. I don't have much sympathy for him. He's also a fool, IMO, for spending so much money instead of traveling with his wife and kids (as the wife wants). I had him pegged as a Trumpie before they told us he voted for the Felon. Especially when he said he represents a "silent majority", but the majority of the community wanted him off the board. Delusions that he is in the majority.

nytimes.com - Hoa politics

To broadcast his belief in “free use and inalienability of property,” Mr. Capone has festooned his house with HOA-prohibited décor. He planted cartoon garden flags in the hedges, installed as many as four bird feeders and wrote Trump campaign messages on his garage and alley pavement in chalk last year. He displayed a Trump banner in front.

Maybe some of the restrictions are beyond the HOA's authority, and he would be right to fight those specific items. The broad "free use" he envisions is contrary to the papers he signed when he bought the property. Maybe he didn't read the CC&Rs before signing?
