When people ask why there's flagging faith in the government, it's because of stuff like this: errors *always* run in the same direction, in ways that benefit democrats and hurt Republicans. There's also never any real recourse.
The latest contestant is the US Census Bureau, which has been found to undercount Republican states and overcount democrat ones:
