Seems to me they should both delay SS until 70. They don’t need or even want the money yet.
Then why delay?
See, this is the thing.
There are 3 classes of people here.
1) People who don't have much money in retirement funds. They need to start SS as soon as they quit working.
2) People who have a lot of money in retirement funds. They don't need the SS money in the first place, so there is no particular reason to delay just to get even more money in the future that they don't need. Their heirs cannot inherit their SS money but can inherit their retirement funds, so why deplete the retirement funds?
3) People in the middle who have a middling amount of retirement funds. This is the class of people for whom it makes any real difference is the start SS early or defer.
