The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Yep. I too am anxiously awaiting.

Currently - the non subsidy price for my PPO (mind you, it's zero deduct, covers lots of stuff, 2 adults 2 kids)....the true price would be $2700 a month.

That puppy should be over $3000 a month.

I"ve managed my income to max out subsidies each year but i'm scared that if my income shows "too low" they'll put my kids on "CHIP" -- the Medicaid for kids insurance. So I called them 2 years ago to ask if its mandatory to be on CHIP and they said no---but they'd take back the subsidy. Thus far i've had a wonderful subsidy of $800+ a month PLUS whatever the Enhanced deal was that i get back during tax time.

Now i'm seriously considering jacking up my income, still getting the subsidies for ACA---but that means I have to pay a bit in Federal taxes which is something I can't remember the last time I did. In my 'good ol days' i paid over $200K in a year. LMAO now I chase refunds and credits.

It would be awesome to max out subsidy for me and DW with ACA and stick kids on CHIP. I've resisted it for 5 years because I have heard that in *some cases* specialists might not take CHIP patients, and hospitals might give less priority to Medicaid people ----Daddy don't play that.

It's gonna be hilarious if i actually TRY to jack my income and pay taxes now lmao.

Almost makes me want to swalow pride, take some part time gig, make 20K a year, 401K the whole thing - but then max out ACA credits, child tax credits, and college tuition credits right up to the full refundable amount.

but i've never had a 'boss' before. Shit that will be weird.
