Politics is dirty. Divisive. Mud Wrestling. While i maintain that in RECENT history this is as nasty as it's been (tribal as I predicted loudly a decade+ ago)...i am not naive to think it was ever such a classy wonderful world - politics, that is.
But from the Kirk shooting, to most every tragedy or violence before that......President Trump uses it to be clssless, and NOT to help heal or calm ---but ti actually enflame the situation. From Covid to Kirk and most things in between. There's been exceptions - but those are few and muted.
So i've had Presidents I loved, and those I disliked (never close to hated).
BUT i gotta say, at least in my lifetime, the men were DECENT. And Trump makes me appreciate that.
Carter, Reagan, Pappa Bush, Clinton, W, Obama, Biden ---- the basic decency that lacks in the Oval today----those men most certainly had.
And sure they all had degrees of ruthlessness and fuckery about them - you dont get there by being too clean (maybe carter exception) but in public, after tragedy or crisis....they understood their office and they understood that their words need to calm and heal --- not divide and pour gasoline.
But then again maybe this means democracy is working.
Trump *does* reflect the. culture - in many ways.
But hey, culture doesn't matter.
Look around at how much it doesn't matter.

I have sinned I forgot to write Reagan.
Ok, coffee and Dunkin sandwich commencing, obviously i need this.
Ugh out of all the ones to forget i forgot my favorite one

Actually, your OP included Reagan. You forgot Bush Jr.
Otherwise, I agree with you. The Felon is classless, and exploits every opportunity (and tragedy) to enflame. The others you list -despite the varying political views- weren't, and didn't.

Bush #43 eagerly exploited 9/11 to wage wars abroad and enact police state tactics in the US. And, when anyone called him out about it, he would start bawling "we were victims on 9/11". All the while, keeping the citizens in a constant state of agitation by fear mongering about the Islamic boogyman.

True. But he still had/has more class than the Felon. Yet, I have to concede your point.

As has been proposed before, the current regime is one more point along a trend line that extends back to Reagan, if not Nixon. Each point more crass and brutish, than the one before.
