The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Jack Smith was back on Capitol Hill this morning testifying. His opening statement was straight forward and to the point. I want to highlight the end of his statement:

YouTube: Former Special Counsel Jack Smith Opening Statement (C-SPAN)
A little over 5 minutes, from the C-Span channel

After nearly 30 years of public service, including in international settings, I have seen how the rule of law can erode. My fear is that we have seen the rule of law function in our country for so long that many of us have come to take it for granted.

The rule of law is not self-executing. It depends on our collective commitment to apply it. It requires dedicated service on behalf of others, especially when that service is difficult and comes with costs.

Our willingness to pay those costs is what tests and defines our commitment to the rule of law and to his wonderful country.
